Students shall

• know the most important basic mathematical rules in the areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponentiation and root  extraction.
• be able to solve simple and more complex equations.
• understand the basics of logarithms.
• understand the basics of trigonometry
• know the most important physical quantities.


Chemistry

Students shall

• know the structure of matter.
• be able to explain the structure of the periodic table of the elements
• be able to explain the different bonds (atomic bond, ionic bond, metallic bond, double and triple bonds) and to name differences.
• know what a chemical reaction is and know what causes it.
• be able to explain selected chemical and physical processes
• know what acids and alkalis are.
• know the special significance of carbon compounds.
• know what saturated, unsaturated and aromatic carbon compounds are.


Microbiology / Hygiene (Sanitation)

Students

• understand the basics of microbiology.
• are able to explain what bacteria and mold fungi are.
• are able to explain the growth cycle of mold fungi.
• are able to explain the term mycotoxins and know the harmful effects of these substances on living organisms (especially humans).
• know the most important pests in the food industry and how to control them, citing a few examples.
• are able to define the term HACCP and know all the system relevant terms.
• know how to implement a basic HACCP concept.
